Where the Classes are “Too Hot for Legwarmers”: The Jazzercise Franchise

Cara Mierl is a native Austinite and certified personal trainer with a passion for teaching Jazzercise. She has owned the Jazzercise franchise for more than 21 years.  “I started as a student of aerobics in the 80’s and then found Jazzercise, which was so different and so much more fun,” says Cara. She experienced her first Jazzercise class at the Northwest Recreation Center in Austin, and we imagine it looked something like this:

Cara opened her first Jazzercise classes in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Now, Cara teaches her classes at McBeth Recreation Center in Zilker Park, and they look a little bit different than when she got started:

Cara explained that as an 8th generation Texan, she is extremely loyal to the health of the state.  She has seen both sides of the spectrum with both active and obese members of her family, and is motivated to help others maintain a healthy lifestyle.

“I was diagnosed with a neuropathic disease a few years ago, and my desire to help others became even stronger after I was able to get back on my feet.”

In Cara’s Jazzercise classes she strives to motivate and encourage her students with a mix of choreography and strength training.  She hopes to empower men and women in the Austin community to be fit and celebrate their fitness journey every step of the way.  She wants her students to be challenged but still feel welcome regardless of their fitness level.  There at 15 killer classes each week at the Austin location alone, and Jazzercise is taking the whole Lone Star State by storm:

Cara and her team are most excited to introduce their new Interval Fusion classes through the Choose Healthier app. “The app is easy to use and I am so excited I can promote it!” .

Definitely give Jazzercise a try, and if you want to rock a sweatband or side-pony for old time’s sake, we say go for it. Don’t forget to like their Facebook page!
