School Health Advisory Councils (SHAC)

Welcome to the world of School Health Advisory Councils (SHAC)!

Every school district is required to have a School Health Advisory Council (SHAC). We provide online workshops and best practices to help create, enhance and provide on-going support to SHACs throughout Texas.

It's Time Texas will be hosting a SHAC Workshop on Wednesday, November 1st, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

During this virtual workshop, we will be reviewing basic concepts of a SHAC, we will identify and learn how to apply resources to improve engagement, and we will build social connections through networking.

We will be joined by Michelle Smith with Action for Healthy Kids and Alice Kirk with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension who will be presenting and sharing their expertise on SHAC guidelines, member recruiting, and available SHAC resources.

During this time, we will also be providing the opportunity to connect with other SHAC leaders and members across the state to discuss a variety of relevant issues including family engagement, SHAC member recruitment and retention, and communicating your SHAC’s impact.
