About

Welcome to the world of School Health Advisory Councils (SHAC)! The SHAC in Action: Partnering for Healthy Kids initiative is lead by a collaborative group under Texas Action for Healthy Kids (TAHK) SHAC Leadership Team, comprised of a variety of organizations and state agencies, each bringing a unique skill set to the initiative. Current SHAC in Action: Partnering for Healthy Kids partner organizations and agencies include: Action for Healthy Kids, YMCA, the Partnership for a Healthy Texas, IT’S TIME TEXAS, Texas AgriLife Extension, and Dairy Max.

Every school district is required to have a School Health Advisory Council (SHAC). Checkout our SHAC in Action Toolkit below! This collection of tools, resources, online workshops and best practices from districts across the state is designed to help create, enhance and provide on-going support to SHACs throughout Texas.

You have access to the tools and resources, now put your SHAC in Action!

SHAC Awards

Every year, SHAC in Action member organizations select five School Health Advisory Councils from a pool of applicants using a set of criteria including the number of active council members, number of participating students and parents, frequency of meetings, reporting practices, number of issue areas addressed, and accomplishments this school year. Each winning district will receive two free registrations for the 2019 Healthier Texas Summit with a travel stipend and one free registration for the 2020 TAHK Summit.
