Provider Spotlight: Yoga Con Amor!

Born and raised in Puerto Rico and ten years an Austinite, Eliz Perez transitioned from a career in personal training and fitness to a life of studying and teaching yoga, and her life changed forever. Eliz opened Yoga Con Amor in North Austin less than three years ago and the community has already blossomed, a result of her intense commitment to housing classes that are accessible for all ages, bodies, and experience levels. We stopped by the one-room studio this morning, decorated with items sourced right from Eliz’s and mother’s homes. The mantra is “yoga for everyone,” and they practice what they preach.

“When we opened this studio, our intention was to fill a void we detected in the yoga community in Austin and to catch all the people who were a little bit intimidated by other studios or didn’t feel comfortable moving at their pace. We created Yoga Con Amor to serve everyone. It could be a twenty-year-old to a seventy-year-old, and you could see those people together in one class.” -Eliz Perez, Founder, Yoga Con Amor

Eliz started the studio totally on her own, a single mom of two, so she harnessed the power of word-of-mouth and little by little the community grew. This has a lot to do with the quality of each class, reflected in Con Amor’s impeccable Yelp reviews. “I have yet to find a person who has walked out of a class upset or with any complaints. And we’re so affordable. It’s cheaper than any studio in town except for donation.”

We love the philosophy Eliz and her instructors share, that yoga is not about the bells and whistles or showing off. “Yoga is not fancy. If you study the philosophy and the history behind it, going from that to $100 pants and a sense of competition doesn’t really make sense. We want to stay true to the original yoga! Just come and breathe, everything else is just icing on the cake. If you can move the entire hour, you did a beautiful practice. How your poses look or how many poses you did is secondary.”

Eliz believes that ‘healthy’ is a way of life that starts with the mind, feeling good about ourselves and what we contribute to each day, and we totally agree. So tend to both your mind and body by trying out a class. They’re all ten bucks, and they’re all in the Choose Healthier App! Namaste!
