The Healthier Texas Summit Moves Online

Healthier Texas Summit Series LogoWe are living in a uniquely challenging time. The rapid spread of COVID-19 has raised new public health concerns, while magnifying existing social, economic, and environmental issues impacting the health and well-being of Texans. Like many of you, we have responded to the current moment by exploring new ways of delivering programs and services to reach people where they are. We have also learned from and leaned on our partners for insight, support, and advice.

Collaboration and cross-sector partnership are vital not only to confront the current health crisis, but also to advance social justice and build healthier, more equitable communities.

In the spirit of lifting up and amplifying the important work being done across the state, we are excited to announce the launch of the Healthier Texas Summit Series, a free, one-of-a kind digital experience for cross-sector thought leaders and local health champions to come together around the common goal of advancing a healthier Texas.

A New Digital Experience Featuring Engaging Sessions, Exciting Keynotes & Networking Opportunities

Building on the success of the Healthier Texas Summit, the new digital experience will engage attendees in timely conversations and networking opportunities through weekly virtual sessions, including discussion panels, workshops, and presentations.

Kicking off on June 29 with a discussion on Health and Social  Justice, the virtual series will culminate with a keynote address by Sandro Galea, MD, PhD, DrPH, a physician, epidemiologist, author, and dean and Robert A. Knox Professor at Boston University School of Public Health. Networking opportunities will include virtual coffees, discussion groups, and a book club centered on Dr. Galea’s recent book, Well: What We Need to Talk About When We Talk About Health.

The series will offer attendees a chance to hear from those who have been working in novel and innovative ways to address the immediate coronavirus effects, as well as organize community level responses and collaborations to address social factors that influence health during a crisis. We will also hear from experts on issues spanning social determinants of health, community health, cross-sector partnerships, health disparities, and health communication.

As a virtual event, the Healthier Texas Summit Series will continue to empower and connect health champions from diverse sectors across the state. We can’t wait to keep the conversation and collaborations growing this year and meet you in a new virtual space.
