ABOUT THE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
The Teach Healthier After School program offers top flight curriculum and instructors to schools that are eligible through ACE/21st Century grant funding or other fundings. Our instructors provide a healthy environment for children after school, where they participate in active games and learn about the importance of nutrition.
Instructors utilize the Teach Healthier Mobile App to provide nutrition and physical activity lessons through a smartphone or tablet.

INSTRUCTOR OF THE MONTH
Congratulations are in order for MONIKA SHAH, our Instructor of the Month!
Monika teaches at Brown Elementary. She works with grade levels 1st-5th. Monika is so creative with her lessons and keeping her students challenged with our nutrition lessons. She continues to go above and beyond to make her IT’S TIME TEXAS class fun and engaging for her students. Her favorite part of being in the THAS program is going to her school site and seeing her students, and knowing that she can make a positive impact on her students’ lives. She loves hearing them tell her the healthy choices they are making. It is a rewarding feeling that she will always cherish.
Monika is hoping to pursue a career in behavioral epidemiology at the Health Department after she graduates with her MPH from UT next year. She is especially interested in the children population, so she is hoping to tackle public health concerns that can be prevented by behavior change as an epidemiologist (i.e. obesity).
Thanks for making our program shine, Monika!
In the eight years we have been partnering with IT’S TIME TEXAS, I have been impressed with their commitment to providing high quality health, nutrition, and fitness activities to Austin ISD students and their families. Given that a large percentage of our youth are at risk for obesity or diabetes, the need for Teach Healthier After School programs is growing.Shirlene Justice, Former Austin ISD Program Director
