ABOUT THE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

The Teach Healthier After School program offers top flight curriculum and instructors to schools that are eligible through ACE/21st Century grant funding or other fundings. Our instructors provide a healthy environment for children after school, where they participate in active games and learn about the importance of nutrition.

Instructors utilize the Teach Healthier Mobile App to provide nutrition and physical activity lessons through a smartphone or tablet.

INSTRUCTOR OF THE MONTH

We are happy to announce Taylor Walker has been selected as instructor of the month for THAS!

Taylor teaches at Perez Elementary four days a week and co-teaches with two other instructors. She has made after school a wonderful and enjoyable experience for all of her students by keeping her lessons structured and always going in with a fun and upbeat attitude. Taylor loves THAS because she gets to hear a variety of viewpoints on what it means to be healthy, how to have fun while exercising, and how to work as a team during class. One day, Taylor hopes to open a sport and life skills training facility for elementary and middle school kids to teach them how to be well-rounded athletes. Like she says, “A healthy lifestyle means a happy lifestyle.” Keep up the great work, Taylor!

In the eight years we have been partnering with IT’S TIME TEXAS, I have been impressed with their commitment to providing high quality health, nutrition, and fitness activities to Austin ISD students and their families. Given that a large percentage of our youth are at risk for obesity or diabetes, the need for Teach Healthier After School programs is growing.Shirlene Justice, Former Austin ISD Program Director
