Texas Walks 2016: Tips to Organize Your Walk!

2-7Thank you for pledging to walk with us and all Texans on Friday, October 28th for 10 minutes at 10am in support of healthier communities! Thousands of Texans are planning to walk, and there’s still plenty of time to encourage your networks to join in. The graphics, sample posts, and email template on the website make sharing easy! No matter where you’ll be or who you’ll be with at 10am on the 28th, you can invite others to walk with you.

If you will be at work at 10am on 10/28, share information about Texas Walks with your boss/leadership team as soon as possible and ask them if they will invite all staff to walk. They can make a gift to IT’S TIME TEXAS on behalf of the business or organization, and encourage individuals to donate. Share a 10am calendar invite with all staff that includes a meeting spot, and send out a reminder email on the 27th.

If you’re an educator, share information about Texas Walks with your principal and/or district-level administrators. Many Texas schools and school districts have already pledged to walk with their students and staff! You can plan to explain the health benefits of walking before you take off, and walk around a track or the perimeter of your campus.

If you’re a college student, share information about Texas Walks with your school’s public health department, wellness center, members of student government and health-related student organizations. Work together to come up with a meeting place and a walking route, and ask your school to share the information via email and on social media with the hashtag #TexasWalks.

If you will be at home, share information about Texas Walks in a neighborhood forum or via word of mouth and invite members of your community to meet up in a central location, like a park or town square.

No matter where you walk, don’t forget to snap a photo or video when you’re walking and share it with the hashtag #TexasWalks! We encourage you to walk for at least 10 minutes. If you have the time to walk for longer, we say go for it!

Feel free to contact our Marketing & Communications Manager Caroline Fothergill with any questions at: caroline@itstimetexas.org. Thank you for promoting and participating in Texas Walks!
